What is Family Connections?
Family Connections (FC) is a high-quality/low-cost parent education program that provides the following well received parenting classes and workshops.

Real Dads Program

Be a REAL Dad The mission of REAL Dads is to improve the quality of children's lives by supporting fathers in becoming more Responsible, Empowering, Available and Loving men in the lives of their Children. What will this program provide you? The REAL Dads program provides encouragement and support to dads and provides fathers with resources and information to support their parenting goals. Children NEED fathers and fathers NEED their children. The REAL Dads program helps to strengthen this relationship.

Saturday Workshops
Free workshops for parents of children 0-6 years of age held at the Gordon Avenue Library, 1500 Gordon Avenue, Charlottesville from 10:30 a.m.-noon on the first Saturday of each month with free child care provided. Topics include: potty training, positive discipline, parental stress solutions, sleep issues, sibling rivalry, child developmental research, and many more. Contact Hilary Nagel at 296-4118 x 238 for more information on upcoming topics and/or to enroll.

Six Easy Steps
A six-week parenting class series held at Clark School on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. for parents of children 3-12 years of age. $25 fee ($40 per couple) for entire series and three optional parent consultation sessions. Free child care is provided by CYFS interns and the Junior League of Charlottesville. Contact Beth Castro at 296-4118 x 224 for more information and/or to enroll.

TransParenting
 A one time CYFS four hour class held on the third Wednesday of each month from 4-8pm to provide information about helping children adjust to the changes associated with family transitions and provide tools to parents to work together for the child’s well-being when separation and/or divorce are chosen.  $50 fee – sliding scale. Please call Gail Dunne to register at 296-4118 x 0.

Co-Parenting:  Making It Work. (2nd Thursday and 4th Saturday of every month from 9AM to 1:00 PM.) 
Register by calling The Community Mediation Center of Charlottesville, 434-977-2926.  This is a 4-hour class for anyone in a parenting role that is raising a child in separate households.  Open to parents who are separated from the other parent, grandparents, foster parents, step-parents, guardians.

Green ParentingMobile— will be traveling to 4 local neighborhoods on a weekly basis to provide parents easy access to parenting support and resources. A Parent Educator will be available to answer parenting questions, show videos, conduct mini parenting workshops and classes. The four neighborhoods are: West Haven, BlueRidge Commons, Parks Edge and Mallside/Rio Hill. However, parents from any neighborhood are welcome to use this resource. Who funds it?
The FC program is funded through a Virginia Department of Social Services Community Based Child Abuse Prevention grant with local support from the City of Charlottesville, County of Albemarle, Charlottesville Area Community Foundation and local donors. A successful example of effective federal/state/local collaboration.
