We hope you find this list helpful and ask that if you find other worthwhile parenting web sites you will share them with us. We would appreciate it if you could give us your rating and a short description of any new sites you are aware of (see below for rating criteria) so we can add the site to our list. Likewise, if you visit a listed site that is not as described or was not very helpful, please send us an update.
We hope you find our efforts helpful and ask that you “pay it forward” by helping us develop and refine our web site listings. In 2006-07 we plan on doing a similar list of “best bet” parenting videos, books, magazines, and curriculums. As we develop these “best bet” evaluated resources they will be listed on the Children, Youth, and Family Services, Inc web site (www.cyfs.org) as well as other parenting web sites in our community.
Ranking:: A four-star ranking system was used in this review, with four stars being the best possible score. The following criteria were used to evaluate the websites:
Ease of navigation
Free downloading of information/handouts
Amount of commercial advertising
Information available in multiple languages
Clarity and usefulness of information
Attention given to particular aspect of parenting (early childcare, stress management, health, etc.)
Reliability of site and sponsors
Amount of current, up to date research material available
Links to other sites or articles
Organization: As the sites varied based on their focus, the reviewed websites have been organized according to the following categories: Age, Topics, Ranking . This organization format was chosen so that parents, parent-educators, and childcare workers can more easily navigate the reviews, and find the information they need and want. This p roject began in the Fall of 2005 and will be updated as new sites are recommended and reviewed.
This Web Site List is a work in progress, please help us identify additional great and not so great sites. Other organizational suggestions are also welcome. Thanks for your help!
